Phanom Rung Stone Temple.

1.This stone temple is one of the most beautiful and famous stone temple of Khmer style in Thailand.

2.It was built in Pink sandstone and latelite

3.This sacred stone tmple was the religious , ceremonial and spiritual center of the people in the region for many centuries.

Geo​ It’s located in เฉลิมพระเกียรติ District , Burirum Province. In northeast Thailand at about 50 km. South of Burirum town.

Histo​ry

1. Phanom Rung came from ‘Wanang Rung’ as Khmer language.It’s mean ‘Big Mountain.

2.This mountain was built in perfect to represent Mount Krailas.

3. The mountain abode of Shiwa God on the human world

4. From the evidence in stone scription and style of the temple, we believe this stone temple was built in during the 10 to 13 centuries.

5. We believe this stone temple was built in during the 10 to 13 centuries.

6. It was constructed in Angkor Wat style. It was a Hindurism shrine dedicated to Shiwa God.

7. It has been registered as a national historic site by Fine Arts Department on March 8,1935.

8. It was restore during 1973 to 1988 with the technique of Anastylogis.

9. It was officially opened by Princess Mahachakri Sirindhorn in 2005.

1. Before we walk to inner the stone temple, I would like to show the first building on your right hand side.

2. This building we call พลับพลาเปลื้องเครื่อง , this platform for the King and Royal families changing attire before ritual in the temple.

3. At the end of the passageway you will find the first Naga bridge which was built in Angkor Wat style. After you passed a second Naga bridge you will arrived at the gallery encloses to inner sanctuary.

4. The Naga bridges as symbolize the passing from The Earth to Heaven.

5. Next to Naga bridge is the entrance gate to the inner sanctuary , we call  ‘ Ghobura entrance’.

6. The Pediment and Lintel on top of the Ghobura entrance and decorated with carving of the Hindu Gods and Vishnu as well as with scenes from the epic Ramayana.

7. There are many important building and structure of religious importance built within this compound but only one most important is the main sanctuary.

8. Into the main sanctuary consists of , the Principal tower we call  วิมายะ, This tower has a room or cell for enshrine the Principal icon to representing ‘Shiva simbolise’ on the square altar.

9. The principal tower consists of 3 part;

First; The base of the tower.

Second; The body of the tower , we call เรือนทาส and Superstructure of the tower is built in receding levels.

10. The superstructure consists of an Antefix around it and the guardian-spirit of the cardinal directions.. Next to the principal tower is Antechamber  or มันตปะ where used for ceremonial have a connecting corridor, we call อันตลาระ
